美國新靈魂樂歌手John Legend原名John Stephens，“John Legend”這個名字只是兒時朋友
們送的綽號。John Legend出生在美國俄亥俄州的Springfield，家庭的音樂氛圍對於John
Legend日後走向音樂方面產生了重要的作用。2003年，John Legend參加了Alicia Keys專輯
《Diary Of Alicia Keys》主打單曲《You Don't Know My Name》的錄製，又先後參加了
Jay-Z《The Black Album》，Black Eyed Peas《Elephunk》，Twista《Kamikaze》等多張
暢銷專輯的錄製，還出現在Janet Jackson，Mary J. Blige等人的單曲錄製中。2003年底，
Kanye West把表現出色的John Legend正式簽入了自己的唱片公司裏並且先後於2003年和2004
年初發行了他的現場專輯《Live at SOB's New York City》和《Solo Sessions Vol. 1:
Live at the Knitting Factory》。隨著Kanye West首張個人專輯《College Dropout》的
成功，John Legend更是受到了Kanye West的進一步發掘，2004年12月28日，在Kanye West
的打造下，John Legend的首張錄音室專輯《Get Lifted》正式發行。
